Indiana Agriculture & Technology School (IATS) is proud to introduce Benny the Bison as the school’s first-ever official mascot. Benny, a bold and spirited blue bison, will represent IATS at all school events, community gatherings, campus visits, and student celebrations across the state.
Before Benny took his place in the spotlight, the IATS community played a key role in choosing his name. Students, parents, faculty, staff, and supporters from across Indiana were invited to submit mascot name ideas. After collecting dozens of creative suggestions, the top finalists were put to a community-wide vote. “Benny the Bison” was selected by popular vote, reflecting the collective spirit, excitement, and pride of our statewide IATS family.
The bison carries a powerful legacy in Indiana. Once roaming freely across the region, including along the historic Vincennes Trace, their presence shaped the landscape and symbolized resilience, determination, and forward momentum. That same spirit lives on in the students of IATS, who are preparing to become tomorrow’s leaders in agriculture, technology, and innovation. Benny brings that energy to life.
“Benny the Bison embodies everything we value at IATS: strength, curiosity, connection, and a love of learning,” said Keith Marsh, Indiana Agriculture & Technology School Executive Director. “He represents our mission of preparing students for the future while staying rooted in the heritage that defines our state. We’re excited for Benny to become a unifying and uplifting figure across all our campuses.”
Benny will begin making appearances at:
- IATS campus visits and statewide events
- School competitions and extracurricular activities
- Community outreach programs
- Open houses and student recruitment events
- Social media campaigns and digital projects
Students and families can expect Benny to bring enthusiasm, encouragement, and a joyful spark to every gathering. Whether he’s welcoming new learners, cheering on student achievements, or connecting with community partners, Benny is poised to become a beloved member of the IATS family.
With his debut, Benny the Bison becomes a symbol of the school’s commitment to innovation, resilience, and the pioneering spirit that drives Indiana Agriculture & Technology School forward.
