Southern Regional School on the Campus of University of Southern Indiana (USI)

IATS is a tuition-free public charter school for students grades 7 – 12. The Southern Region is located on the beautiful USI campus. Students who attend our school will gain hands-on experience by participating in Project-Based Learning during the weekly Technology Day classes on campus and on Agriculture Class days at the Teaching Farm located about 36 miles east of Evansville in Stendal, IN. Students can purchase their lunch on campus and take advantage of the Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness Center each day.

AN EXCITING CAREER PATHWAY

As a leading hybrid-learning school in Indiana, IATS offers students a pathway to a wide range of careers. There is great demand for individuals with the practical skills and insight students will gain by their involvement in agriculture and technology. This experience, combined with remote and in-classroom academic coursework, will give IATS graduates access to amazing career opportunities.

The IATS Southern Region Teaching Farm is located at Stendal, Indiana, in Pike County, 36 miles east of Evansville. This farm offers students a wide range of exciting agriculture experiences including horticulture, aquaculture, poultry meat and egg production, and goat herd management. This farm is one of the oldest Kiko and Savannah meat goat farms in the United States (US).

Practical Experience and Training

The livestock portion of the IATS Farm Campus is managed by Mr. Chris Luton, a national leader in the meat goat industry. His focus is producing commodity goat meat, as well as raising replacement herd sires and does. This farm is one of the oldest Kiko and Savannah meat goat farms in the United States (US). Chris Luton is a professional with years of experience, knowledge, and passion for his work. He is a land management specialist who has helped meat goat farmers across the US manage their herds and farms for maximum profit while using methods that are natural and sustainable.

IATS students will be supervised by a Licensed Agriculture Teacher. These farm experiences and interactions with livestock are excellent ways for IATS students to become familiar with the power of animal husbandry.

A Dynamic Way To Learn

The life lessons shared on the farm will be transformative, allowing students to engage as entrepreneurs to solve problems as they serve their communities. They will discover how their efforts in the agriculture world can produce the commodities that create diverse opportunities when it comes to feeding todays and our future world.
